In the date 1118 Hugues de Payens headed a group of 9 Knights who had taken a vow of poverty,chastity and christian duty. They began as guardians of Christians progression pilgramage to Jerusalem.They were offered a place to live by King Baldwin II. They had a temporary place in his palace.Upon his dying in 1139 they continued under the patronage of St Bernard.The Poor Knights of the Order of the Temple of Solomon evolved from a group of crusaders who had helped possession Jerusalem in 1099. They began to follow a religious way of life in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and gradually became more intricate in protecting pilgrims to the Holy sites in the area.
Sadly, the names of the first members of the group are not historical, but their numbers quickly grew and they were then given part of the former Aqsa mosque, know then as the Temple of Solomon, hece their name.
